Music Marketing BLOG #2

i think i never want to listen to anything that goes under the genre of "Funk".It's not because i believe the genre is bad but just because of how long we spent on this project.from the moment we got assigned funk as our genre i submerged myself in information about the genre, getting to know as much of it as possible.

As i mentioned on my last post i watched a bunch of videos to get inspiration and heard artist in the genre to get inspiration for the music video we had to create.i listened to the song we were meant to shoot a video for about a hundred times just to get a chance to get an idea for the video.

At first i couldn't come up with anything but then i started with imagining the color pallet. i choose cold colors but in vibrant tones like red blue and purple. After getting an idea of the color pallet i started to imagine what i wanted the editing timeline to be like and I shared my thought with the team.

Let's talk about my team, this project thought me a lot of things but mainly it thought me how to be a team member and trust my team. This project had a lot of layers and things to do and usually i like to control everything but it was just too much this time so i had to learn to work on my part and let others do their part and just see how it would go. My team came through successfully in delivering their task on time and the best work they could , we communicated constantly and helped each other if needed.

To the right is a picture of the group chat we created to have easy communication, in this case we were discussing the logos i had created and choosing which one we all liked more.  I'm usually not a fan of working in groups but this was my best experience so far. The day we had to do our presentation i couldn't attend for medical reasons and my group was able to continue without me and even told me how they think they did after they presented. I loved working with this group because everyone worked and everyone was very involved.

Rewinding to producing the musical video, once we had the storyboard ready half of the team did the casting for whom our artist would be then they shot as many angles and settings that were available to them.  The team sent the footage my way and i started editing.

When it came to post production it took quite the time.   I spent more than 10 hours editing and lip syncing alone took like 4 hours. When the team recorded they forgot to play the song aloud so getting what the artist was singing took forever to figure out. Once i had most of the clips synced i started cutting and trying to create an entertaining but coherent pace. I layered many clips over the other, lower opacities, made maskings, deleted and re did the project twice because i simply didn't like it. But after many hours of sitting in front of the computer I found what the vibe and direction of the video i wanted it to go and sent it to the group chat for approval.

Final Timeline.

Overall this project taught me how to apply research, to use my creativity into creating plans of marketing and details of how to distribute music and promote it for the band to have success.
